. . . in a nutshell
All of us in "Jersey Tribute" grew up together as kids in Paterson, NJ. Paterson produced great singers. Jimmy Charles "A Million to One",and Sammy Turner "Lavender Blue"
in the early 60s. Lou Costello was very proud of his hometown, and so are we.
We sang on streetcorners, played ball with and against each other. Traveled around the world as soldiers and performers. Sometimes in the same bands, often recording together in the studio on each others projects. Our bond ,other than sports ,was music.
We admired The Duprees, The Happenings, and The Four Seasons as singers and Jersey guys. Good friends making good music. We listened to Tommy Bialoglow's top tenor falsetto on many of
The Duprees hits. Never imagining we would ever be performing together 50 years down
the road.
We are very happy that Tommy, co-founder of The Duprees, has joined our group
of friends. He, along with John Salvato,is a member of the Vocal Group hall of Fame.
The Duprees were inducted in 2006.
Sal and I heard Bob Miranda & The Happenings' "See You in September" in Vietnam in 1966.
The group also included our High School friends, Tommy Giuliano, Dave Libert, Ralph DeVita, and Bernie La Porta on guitar.
Joe and Lenny, also in the Army, heard the song that put our good friends on top
of the charts. Our friends had earned a GOLD RECORD. We were all very proud.
Lenny joined Bernie & The The Happenings shortly after.
Bernie was awarded TWO GOLD RECORDS with The Happenings, for "See You in Setember"
and "I Got Rhythm" in 1967.
Joe, Lenny, and Sal have been my friends since 1960. Our groups performed together at
High School dances that year, and we have been friends ever since. Sal's group,
Sal & The Sinceres came very close to a recording contract with EPIC RECORDS.
Joe's recording of "Bobbie", on the Dunes label in 1963 as Joey & The Lexingtons with
Lenny Conforti, and two more of our friends, Tom Pezzuti and Ray Rocco, is listed as
one the Top 1000 Doo Wop Hits of all time. More friends who made us proud.
All in all, at this time in our lives, we have come full circle from around the globe to perform together as Joe Zisa & Friends.
We love each other as Brothers. We love NEW JERSEY, and we love sharing this great
Jersey music with our audiences. Sal and Joe recently celebrated 50 consecutive years
on stage together.
We are Joe Zisa & Friends ... not just the name of our group. It's who we really are.
